BTS stand to make $1bn as they announce mammoth comeback tour

BTS Set to Make $1 Billion with Upcoming Mammoth Comeback Tour

BTS has officially announced a monumental 79-date world tour, marking their return to the stage after a four-year hiatus. This much-anticipated tour is expected to be one of the biggest events of the year, with performances in major cities such as London, Tokyo, Munich, Sydney, and Los Angeles. Notably, it’s the first time since 2019 that the band will perform outside South Korea and the US.

Previous Achievements and Financial Projections

– Their last tour set impressive records, generating approximately $246 million (£182 million) at the global box office, making them the first Korean act to headline Wembley Stadium.
– Billboard reports that BTS and their label BigHit/HYBE could earn over $1 billion (£740 million) from this reunion, with revenue streams ranging from concerts and merchandise to album sales and streaming.

Tour Details

Kickoff Date: The tour launches with three consecutive nights at South Korea’s Goyang Stadium on April 9, 2026.
Notable Locations: Following South Korea, the band will tour Asia, Europe, and North America, including two nights at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on July 6 and 7.
Special Stage Design: The concerts will feature a 360-degree in-the-round stage setup, maximizing seating capacity at each venue.

The band’s website hints at additional dates to be revealed in Japan, the Middle East, and beyond for 2027. Fans can start purchasing tickets on January 22, with general sales commencing two days later.

BTS’s Journey Back

Since their formation in the early 2010s, BTS has played a pivotal role in mainstreaming K-pop in Western markets, thanks to their vibrant mix of dance-pop, hip-hop, and introspective lyrics. Anticipation for their comeback surged when rapper Suga completed his 18-month mandatory military service last June, becoming the last member to return.

The band made headlines when they announced their comeback during a live broadcast on Weverse last July, attracting over seven million viewers. Their return is reminiscent of past ticket sales for major events, such as Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Oasis’s reunion tour.

A Welcoming Resurgence

Over the past few years, BTS has produced chart-topping singles like Dynamite, their first US number one, and Butter, while also collaborating with Coldplay on My Universe. However, their planned 2020 world tour was derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and live music restrictions limited their performances before military service began. Despite a decline in streaming figures during their hiatus, various solo projects have kept fans engaged.

As the band clears their social media profiles and hints at new music—set to release on March 20—excitement continues to build. The yet-untitled album, recorded in Los Angeles over six months, marks a significant step in their journey.

Heartfelt Messages to Fans

In the spirit of their reunion, BTS sent handwritten letters to their loyal fandom, ARMY, expressing their gratitude and anticipation. Jimin wrote, “The year we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived,” while RM added, “We’ve waited more earnestly than anyone else.” These personal touches enhance the excitement surrounding their comeback.
