Christmas Spirit Offered ‘Right Through the Year’

A charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals in Jersey proudly proclaims it embodies the Christmas spirit right through the year. The Grace Trust plays a critical role in aiding between 700 to 750 individuals annually who are grappling with poverty, loneliness, or addiction. This year, the organization has observed a significant increase in the diversity of those seeking assistance, particularly among older residents requiring community support.

Bringing Joy to the Community

General Manager Vinni Jones emphasized the charity’s commitment to spreading joy from its drop-in center on Lewis Street in St. Helier. Key initiatives include:

– Supporting 500 individuals through the food bank annually.
– Organizing singing, art classes, and Saturday lunches to foster community engagement.

During the holiday season, the Grace Trust enhances its offerings with festive goodies. Recently, 92 attendees enjoyed an absolutely brilliant Christmas meal at St Paul’s Centre, facilitated by 20 dedicated volunteers. Musical entertainment was provided by the Fiddler’s Green and the trust’s Parklife choir, creating a warm, festive atmosphere.

A Welcoming Environment

Mr. Jones invites everyone to participate: “Just come down, knock on the window, and we’ll give you what we’ve got.” He assures that the charity provides much more than food and holiday treats. Visitors often discover a wealth of activities designed to uplift spirits and create connections.

Additionally, the Grace Trust has established a fund to assist young mothers and collaborates with various agencies to distribute toy vouchers during Christmas.

Year-Round Support

Support at the Grace Trust does not end with the festive season. Mr. Jones underscores the organization’s commitment to being a consistent source of comfort and understanding throughout the year. It’s just a matter of being able to offer that understanding and to talk about January, talk about February for them. We’ll still be here for you,” he reassured.

Jersey’s government has also highlighted mental health resources available during the holidays. The Adult Mental Health Crisis Team can be reached at 445 290, providing 24-hour support, alongside online resources from Together All.

The Grace Trust exemplifies how the Christmas spirit is not confined to December but continues to uplift lives throughout the year, ensuring everyone in the community has access to support and connection regardless of the season.
