Elon Musk Sets ‘Tentative’ Date For Tesla’s Robotaxi Launch, Says “Could Shift”

Elon Musk has announced a tentative launch date of June 22, 2025, for Tesla’s robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, but emphasized that the date could shift due to the company’s focus on safety. Musk noted that Tesla is being “super paranoid about safety,” and the initial rollout will involve about 10 to 20 driverless Model Y vehicles operating within geofenced areas of Austin. He also mentioned plans for the first autonomous delivery from the factory to a customer’s house on June 28, 2025. The launch follows testing of self-driving Model Ys on Austin’s public roads, with no reported incidents. Tesla aims to scale up to thousands of vehicles if the initial phase is successful, with plans to expand to other cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco. However, Musk’s history of missing deadlines and ongoing safety concerns with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software have raised skepticism among analysts, with some suggesting the timeline may be optimistic.
