The above-ground pilot enrichment plant at Iran’s Natanz nuclear site was destroyed, according to Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who informed the UN Security Council on June 13, 2025. The destruction was attributed to Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military sites. Iranian authorities reported attacks on two other facilities, Fordow and Isfahan, but there was no clear evidence of damage to their underground enrichment halls. Grossi noted that the electrical infrastructure at Natanz was also destroyed, potentially damaging centrifuges due to power loss, though no increase in radiation levels was detected outside the site. Iran has claimed the strikes caused no significant disruption to its nuclear program, while Israel stated the operation aimed to hinder Iran’s nuclear weapon capabilities. The Natanz facility, a key part of Iran’s uranium enrichment program, was enriching uranium to up to 60% purity, close to weapons-grade levels.
