Israel’s Haifa Refinery Facilities Shut Down After Iranian Attack

On June 16, 2025, Israel’s Haifa-based Bazan Group announced a complete shutdown of its oil refinery facilities in Haifa Bay following an Iranian missile strike. The attack, which occurred overnight, caused significant damage to the power station supplying steam and electricity to the complex, resulting in the deaths of three employees. The strike ignited fires, with firefighting teams struggling to extinguish the blaze, and caused localized damage to pipelines and transmission lines. Bazan is collaborating with the Israel Electric Corporation to restore power and is assessing the full extent of the damage and its operational impact. The shutdown has raised concerns about potential fuel supply disruptions and environmental risks in the densely populated Haifa Bay area, though current air pollution levels reportedly pose no immediate health risk. The attack marks the first direct Iranian strike on Israel’s energy infrastructure in the ongoing conflict, which began escalating on June 13, 2025, with Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear and energy facilities.
