A large crowd with thousands of student protesters has gathered in Lille's Place de la République, in northern France.

Demonstrations are continuing across France on Tuesday against what protesters describe as under-investment in high schools.

The BBC's Europe correspondent Nick Beake, reporting from Lille amid the crowds, can see a strong police presence nearby but no signs of trouble so far.

Some protests over the past week in France have turned violent, as protesters and authorities clashed.
